Remote NW Shire Selects Managed IT to Provide ICT Services

Perth-based Managed IT has been selected as the preferred supplier of Information & Communications Technologies – Service Management (ICT) for the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley (SDWK).

Information technology is a critical operational service due to the isolation of the district – SDWK is almost 2,000kms from Perth and consists of approximately 75 staff. Not surprisingly, it suffers from an ICT skills gap.

SDWK also has limited internal staff resources to assist the selected ICT Service Management contractor, and requires a comprehensive and high quality, fast responding, and consistent standard of service.

Managed IT (MIT) is a WALGA (Western Australian Local Government Association) Panel Preferred Supplier, and has been providing month to month services to SDWK since December 2015.

SDWK recently went to tender to procure a permanent provider. The tender expressed the Shire’s desire to continuously improve their current business processes and service delivery through the effective use of contemporary and future technologies. To achieve their longer-term technological support, the Shire needed an ‘effective and efficient ICT service management supplier capable of providing digital leadership.

SWDK also included a greater weighting on ICT security and risk management, as this was one of the general weaknesses identified in a recently completed performance audit on local government ICT controls conducted across 50 local government entities by the WA Auditor General (SDWK was not part of the audit).

MIT received confirmation it had been awarded the 5 year plus 1 tender on the 1st of December 2021.

MIT will continue to maintain the following services to SDWK across all 13 sites:

  • Managed VCIO (Virtual Chief Information Officer)
  • Managed Helpdesk
  • Managed NOC (Network Operations Centre)
  • Managed Desktop
  • Managed Backup
  • Managed Disaster Recovery
  • Managed Server
  • Managed Network
  • Managed Cloud
  • Managed Security Services.

Mike Wates, Managing Director of Managed IT said: “This is another important win for Managed IT, as it not only continues to demonstrate that Managed IT’s Managed Government division is a leading service provider for Local Government in Western Australia for over 16 years, but it is also testament to the success of our ICT Maturity as a Service offering.”
